04 Suburban Fuel Filter Location

OK, I have read on several sites that the location of the fuel filter on my 2004 Suburban is on the drivers side frame rail by the end of the torsion bar. I have spent way to much time on my back looking for the fuel filter....it's not there. The fuel lines run in that exact spot, but no filter. I have followed the lines from the tank to above the transmission. Does anyone know if they put the filter above the tank or some other alternate location???

How do you change it and how often do you need to change it? I have 107,000 miles and it's never been done. Do you have any instructions or advice?

When the pump goes is when it's gets a new "filter".
