Cd Player Locked Up

My husband has a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado with the Bose stereo system with a 6 disk CD changer. The stereo will lock up and not eject, load, or play a cd. It will stick on the initializing phase for a few days then stop but still not function properly. However you can play the radio just fine. Now he has removed the negative battery cable momentarily and the radio is displaying no disk when there is 3 disks in the player. Any suggestions on how to correct this issue? We are going crazy it has eaten 3 brand new CD's and we haven't even listened to them yet!

I would suggest A new CD changer but that's just me.

I would remove the cd changer and disassemble it to extract your CD's and clean all the internals.

Blow out any accumulated dust and check to make sure the mechanisms do not have any broken parts or stripped gears.

The cleaning may be all it needs to continue to work properly if nothing is broken inside.

Re install it and test with an older / less valuable set of CD's.
