Intake Gasket, Best One?

Did a search but came up empty. About 2 years ago I was getting coolant in the oil on my 1996 K 1500 with the 5.7. I did not have time to fix it then, so I put THIS STUFF in it. It has held up pretty well, but now I'm losing coolant again with no visible outside leak. I'm losing about a pint every two hundred miles or so but I'm not seeing anything in the oil this time. I'm thinking I need to change out the intake gasket but I want to get the very best one that is available, as I don't want to be doing this again anytime soon. Anybody got the brand and part # of the top-of-the-line "fixer" gasket set?

I went ahead and got the one from Advance Auto that I put in the above link in post #3. It's got the whole set, including the one for the upper plastic section. Anybody have any tips or shortcuts that I should know about before tackling this? Torque values for the manifold bolts? Thanks.

I've got a 1997 5.7L Z71, same problem, kept getting worse. I used the Felpro kit also, the instructions said to apply dry, many techs said to use silicone or I'd be doing it again. I probably voided the waranty because I used silicone. 6 months and 5000 miles later, tight as a drum, no leaks.

Warning: on the passanger side near the front, there is a heater hose connector ( pot metal ), it will look like crap, the o-ring and plastic locking mechanism will probably fall apart when you disconnect it. The auto parts stores will try to sell you a complete replacement kit, do not, repeat, do not try to unscrew it, the mofo will break off, go to the dealer and get the correct o-ring and locking mechanism. Guess how I know, was the worse part of the whole proceedure.

If you go to the dealer or buy from any of the online GM parts sellers, the replacement GM gasket set is updated/superseded with a new style gasket that is as good, if not better than any aftermarket. It should be P/N 89017465

this is the first time that I have heard of this ... and considering the fact that GM let this issue go on for such a long time ... I would just by-pass the GM gasket, and get the newest version of the FELPro gasket that is available for the Vortec engine ... don't take a chance on the GM gasket when you KNOW that the FelPro will do the job and be the reliable fix .. the first time.
