00 Gmc 4x4 Abs And Brake Warning Light Issue

This is my first post to this forum and let me start by saying I can handle serious mechanical issues but not very good with electrical problems. My 2000 Serria SLT has been an excellent vehicle and been well maintained I've owned this truck for 100,000 of it's 170,000 with no issues.

 

The truck now has a problem with the ABS and brake warning light coming on at times NO pattern to this problem. Sometime it will go for days and never come on seems as rain or humidity creates the light issue. I read that this could be a grounding issue and that is my thought because where I live we had a lot of snow this winter and the roads were salted more than double the last few winters. This has created rust areas under the truck I have cleaned off most of the rust and sprayed with undercoat. If anyone knows where the ABS system grounds please give me some directions how to find the grounding location. There also may be other reasons for this issue I haven't heard of I would welcome those.

You need to get the codes read first, you cannot get ABS codes read with a code reader only a Tech 2 or similar product.

Only a frayed, broken or loose ground would be a bad ground, I don't care how dirty it is (not saying you said that but I've read a lot of people thinking that they need to clean they're ground to make them better). I've done a lot of reading on this topic and I'm almost 100% sure the problem is the ABS module. Go to this website, they can rebuild the module for about $130 and be done within the week. Excellent reviews on this company. I've been dealing with the same problem for about 2 years now, I just never bothered with it till now I had bigger fish to fry. This website has a troublshooting guide and they welcome your calls, so call them. You can also drive without your ABS module. I waited till both lights were out, then crawled under the truck and removed the electrical connection to it and the lights came on, apparently this is a high failure rate item, well I guess if you get 150,000 out of it then maybe not. Do not do a thing until you have the codes and can figure out whats wrong. Throwing part at it wont usually fix the problem.
