3.73 Gear Question

Found some 3.73 gear and I was wanting to know where would I find out if they will fit my truck or not, I have the ten bolt rear end with the despicable 3.23 gears and though the gas mileage is great, the towing and performance is do do so I would like to swap these gears for some better towing and performance reasons.

IF your axles haven't been swapped, thats what they are in your truck.

Oh ok, I highly doubt they have been swapped but I found some gears on ebay, so Im guessing I need to buy two sets, Ive never done anything rear or front end wise so Im lost there, but do you know how long a change of these gears would take?

It's an art to swapping gears... If done wrong, they will self destruct or whine like crazy. Find someone local who's experienced in gear swaps.

 

In my area, it cost $1300-1500 depending on the shop for a gear swap and that includes the gear set, master rebuild kit and labor for a 4x4.

Local guy quoted me about $1700 for mine, and the dealership quoted $3k per axel.

Those are def. Some steep prices but better than destroying the damn things myself!

I agree with you though, the gears must be set up correctly or they will never last. I had a gear whine in at least one vehcile, at it was that way from the factory.
