Oil Usage In 2011 Silverado 1500 Z71

My new 2011 Silverado 1500 was a quart low on the first oil change at 7000 miles. I called Chevy and they said it shouldn't be low. I asked if it should be changed more often than indicated and was told that you should go by the

information center usage. That still showed 40% oil life. The service manager at the dealership said that there was a "bulletin" that said it should be changed every 5,000. Why weren't owners notified if this is true? They couldn't show me the bulletin. What does anybody know about this? Please Help. I don't want a truck that's a lemon. I had a 2007 that I had issues with that were never resolved. thanks for any input.

Its not uncommon for the them to use about 1 quart between oil changes. Some use a little more, others use less. I don't believe its an issue and I've not heard anything about "bulletin" stating oil should be changed every 5000 miles. Also, unless he could provide a bulletin proof, I wouldn't take his word for it. I've always followed the oil life meter unless I know conditions warranted changing earlier. I do know that the 2011's are requiring dexos approved oil, so make sure the oil your using is.

For the cost and peace of mind, why not change oil every 5000Km??? Ive done that on every one of my vehicles and never had a problem.
