Edge Insight Monitor?

So I've got a Blackbear AutoCal tune (so I don't need a programmer) and did the DIC mod and was looking into gauges & monitors to see more info. I came across the ScanGaugeII which looks very feature-rich, but the display looks lame and I can't find any dash mounting pods for it. Then I found the Edge Insight (either the CS or CTS) which does have a nice looking dash pod available.

 

Anyone using the Insight and what do you think of it? I can't find a complete list of gauges it will show. Top on my list is instant MPG (DIC doesn't show it on the 4.8), battery, outside temp, oil pressure... Plus the 0-60 and 1/4 mile features look cool.

I use to run Edge before Blackbear but I had the original not the CS/CTS model. You will prolly only use the 0-60 once and thats about it. The gauges are okay but the DIC already has the ones I needed. It does have instant MPG, voltage, oil pressure but no outside temperture.

 

$340-450 is a lot for some gauges. I would look into swapping your gauges out for the one with battery and oil pressure first.

 

Change out the mirror for the temp and compass.

I bought a bully dog gt tuner before a blackbear tune on my 2000. (waiting for return email from bb for 08). I returned the bully dog to stock and use it as a gauge. it has plenty of gauges in it, of which you can view 4 at a time. It also has a driving coach that tells to when your foot is burning more fuel than necessary and helps improve driving habits and thus mpg. It also comes with quarter mile tester that uses either a light tree or the instant you press the accelerator. Volts, rpm, speed, IAT, Load %, trans temp, coolant, timing, barometer, and a couple others. Instant and average mpg's are displayed all of the time along with the wasted energy meter. Display also displays fuel used since last reset (mine is at 700 gallons since last reset. But, MSRP of 399 is a bit for just gauges.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I may look into swapping the mirror because I really miss having temperature - my '99 Tahoe had it, but my 9 year newer truck doesn't! Can anyone confirm if the CS/CTS does or doesn't have outside temp? I have seen people report getting "ice" warnings on trucks without stock temp, so I'm thinking it probably has the temp sensor.

 

The Insight CS plus the dash pod is just over $300 from amazon.com which still is a cheaper alternative to running 2 gauges like the Interceptors.

I would recommend an Aeroforce Interceptor, ran one on my Tahoe and loved it.

Thought I would update this thread. I decided to pick up a ScanGaugeII and while the display is nowhere near as cool as the Edge ones, it has been surprisingly good.

 

- Shows 4 gauges at once

- Shows instant MPG (which my LS doesn't show even with DIC mod)

- Shows outside temperature (by programming in one of their "XGauge commands)

- Multiple colors so it matches the DIC pretty good

- Will show 1/4 mile, 0-60, etc.

 

Once you run through a few tanks of gas with it connected, it is also supposed to show cost per mile, cost per trip, etc. so it might help me to drive more fuel-efficient if I keep an eye on those numbers!

If you have a blackbear tune and are only using the GT for gauges why not sell it and get the bullydog watch dog? If im not mistaken it even has the driving coach.

 

BUT to answer the origional question I personally would purchase the Insight over the scanguage2 or watch dog because of this display. It has a larger screen and you can get a dash pod mount for it. You can never have too much info about your truck. By the time you start buying a good quality gauge (autometer, etc) and a pod you will be up there in price and if you sell the truck for another the insight is easier to move over

How much difference did you get with the BB? Looking at getting the BB for my 6.0.
