Dixiedog78 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I have a 2005 GMC Siera 1500 crew cab Z71. It has 235,000 miles on it. A few months ago a started getting lifter noise on the driver side head. I consulted the local Chevy dealership and they agreed it was an lifter problem. I ordered new lifters from the local parts house and had a local mechanic do the labor. 1-2 days after the work was completed the lifter noise came back. I tried using additives in the oil and it did not help. I am looking for suggestions on what to do next.... The local parts house siad they would warranty the part but I just want to rule out any other possibiltlies / issues that might be causing the lifter noise before I get the parts house to give me new lifter parts .Thanks
8.1HD/ALLISON Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Did you inspect the camshaft journals while you had it apart? If the roller on the end of the lifter was scored up the camshaft is trash. They had some problems with those.
Dixiedog78 Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 If the camshaft is scored then it would make noise all the time right? It does not make noise all the time. The noise will appear and disappear through out the day. The only time I do not hear the noise is when it is running 70 mph and over...... any ideas? Did you inspect the camshaft journals while you had it apart? If the roller on the end of the lifter was scored up the camshaft is trash. They had some problems with those.
