Oil Consumption Question

I have an 05 1500 with a 4.8 motor, 58,000 miles. I only put 5,000 miles a year on this truck. On the last oil change I noticed the oil was low but I didn't change the oil it was done at the dealership I bought it from. I have put 1,758 miles on it since the last oil change. When I pulled the dipstick I noticed it was 3/4 of a quart low. The truck is still under warranty so I took it to the dealership after having it for three days I called to see what they had found. The service manager tells me this is normal. So to my question is anyone else have this kind of oil useage? By the way they still have the truck in the shop. Thank for your time. Alan

I get 4 1/2 quarts out, every oil change at 3,000 miles. 6 quarts in with oil filter. I've owned 3 gm trucks, all the same oil consuption.

That seems pretty high to me--but you won't really know unless you do the oil change yourself and keep track of what you add. Try this, when you get it back from the dealer mark/measure EXACTLY where the oil level is on the dipstick (cold engine) and see how much you add over the year.
