Swapping Tailgate Hardware

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am new to this forum. I tried searching for some related threads on this but haven't come across anything yet.

I purchased an aftermarket tailgate shell without hardware to replace my dented factory tailgate on my 2006 Silverado. My old tailgate opens and closes just fine. It just has a nasty dent that wont pull easily. I am hoping to salvage all of the interior and exterior hardware from my old tailgate and use it on the new shell. I have heard it can be a bit tricky. So I was hoping I could get some advice here. Or even a step-by-step how-to would be great!

Any suggestions or links you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

LMC truck has a kit that replaces your handle, hinges and latches thats fairly cheap. Might want to look into that. As for swapping the hardware, the biggest pain in the ass is the spring wires that go from your handle to the latches and adjusting the latches and strikers. Otherwise not too bad.
