Hey Guys,

I'm looking at a truck that I want to buy, it is a 2008 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.6 Dmax, Ally transmission. However, I'm new to the diesel world. This will be my first diesel and I want to know what you guys think, here are the details.

LT Crew Cab

2WD w/ Z71 Package

130,000 Miles

Asking Price: 20,000

Do you guys think it's a good price? My main concern is the high mileage and I'm wondering if the truck will need to undergo some heavy maintenance, replacements, or repairs soon. The truck overall looks clean. I would greatly appreciate some input! Thanks!

dirtymaxes and allison trannys are bulletproof as in mileage means nothing AS LONG AS THEY ARE MAINTAINED/HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED

i know of one guy thats pushing 250k on his 03 dirtymax and its been nothing but good to him but then again he maintains it like a mofo, i would love to have a diesel but the maintance/oil changes would kill my wallet

Wow, that sounds scary. Are maintenance on diesels really that much more than a regular gas truck? Well, like I said.. I'm new to the diesel world.. any input helps. Thanks! When you talk about maintenance on a dmax what exactly are we talking about besides traditional oil changes

oil changes aren;t quarts on diesels they are gallons....lots of filters i think the dirtymax has 2 fuel filters alone that last about 10k and the allison has two filters also one which needs to be changed often

i'm not expert so if a real dirtymax owner can chime in that would help the OP more then me

Look at www.nada.com. Values range from ~$20,625 for a rough trade in to ~$28,000 for clean retail.

So if it's $20k might be a good deal.

Since it's only 2wd it would be useless to me.

X2, 2wd in this part of Canada is not a good idea. I wouldnt want to pull a trailer with a 2wd either, Ive been to some sketchy ass campsites and having 4x4 was good to get out, especially if it rains.

first things first the engine will take 10 -11 quarts incl oil filter change

there is a fuel filter that must be changed

air filter

transmission filter

my thought process would be to think very carefully in the 2 wd truck, the front ends of these trucks are heavy

if you keep on pavement and never leave then u might be ok

but if it were me I would buy the 4x4 truck over a 2 wd.

first,a duramax takes 10qts and filter, needs to be changed every 8-10k,,tranny needs a spin-on filter changed every 30-50k,,fuel filter also a spin-on [only 1 filter] needs to be changed every 15-25k,,air filter will go 50k,these trucks are just about bullet proof,,they go 200,000-500,000 all the time,,they add $7-9k to a new truck and keep most of the price when you sell them used,if you tow there great

this is closer to the truth---there is little difference in the cost of maintanence of a dmax and the gaser, except for the additional oil and fuel filters. oil changes can go longer(i change mine in the 12-15k range), and fuel filters can be gotten for ~$15(i change these too often, ~5k or bad fuel), and the ally filter is about $7. my company has both dmax and 6l gasers and the maintanence costs are effectively a wash after 5yrs if the dealer does the work....

if you get a bad dmax, it can quickly eat your pocket book, but so can a bad 6l... the dmax is much more truck, if you ever decide to haul it is the only solution...
