Rear Brake Tool

i have an 2008 gmc sierra 1500 z71 ft, rotors=rear drums, i need info on how to reconnect parking brake cable back in new bracket on new shoes they were easy to disassemble but a bear trying to reconnect, is there a tool to keep spring from bowing as you try to reconnect cable, thanks

nope just the same as any drum brake, you probably need to unscrew the little adjuster that might give you some more wiggle room

Yup -- Needle Nose Vice Grips --- Pull the cable with a pair of pliers untill you can't pull anymore without breaking it. Put the vice grips on the cable so the cable can't go back in past the backing plate--- Install shoes

 

 

 

 

Now there is a special tool to hold the spring off the shoes -- think lisle makes it

i opened up the little pocket for the cable to enter easier and once the cable was in i squeezed it back together.
