Speedo Pegged

My wife's 2005 Suburban has had some issues with the speedo acting up. Well now it is pegged well after the 120mph mark. It shows no signs of comming back. I have looked it up, and it seems to be a common problem. I will not fall under the warranty (or law suit) becuase it has 170,000 rounds on it. What is the best way to get this fixed? I understand you can get a new cluster, but it needs to be programmed. It's easy to get out and replace, but what is the best course of action? Dealers will charge an arm and a leg for it I'm sure. I have found things online that will program it and such, but I really can't afford to not drive it. Any ideas will be great.

Do a search for 'instrument cluster repair'. There are a number of posts that include a link to a repair place that will do the repair, after you send the unit to them. Sounds like turn around time is pretty good, and if I recall, prices were in the $200 range. From what I recall, they will program the mileage and engine hours for you after you fill out the paperwork.

I just purchased a GPS with speed display. A little over $100 new I believe.

It shouldn't be that expensive. I got mine completely rebuilt for $99 at http://www.myairbags.com/products.php works perfectly

Prices for rebuilding it range from around $90 up to about $150. Check Ebay for GM Cluster Repair or Craigslist in your area for the same thing. Most rebuilds will replace all stepper motors and backlight LEDs and come with a lifetime warranty. A rebuild will not require reprogramming of the mileage and engine hours. I had to have my 05 Tahoe's rebuilt about a year ago...drove over to P'cola where the guy was located, he pulled it out, replaced stepper motors and LEDs, and reinstalled it in about 45 minutes. No programming of anything had to be done.
