I have a 03 2500 4x4 with 98000 miles that has developed a vibration and loud noise in the drive train. It only happens when decelerating (off the gas pedal) at speeds between 65 and 75 mph, dosen't occur when your accelerating or at speeds other then 65-75. 4X4 shift lever vibrates and loud noise come from under truck. Local Chevy garage couldn't figure it out. ANY IDEAS??

Have you checked your "U" joints? Does your truck have a 2 piece driveshaft, might be the carrier bearing.

U joints are fine and truck has one piece drive shaft , no carrier bearing. Years ago I had 76 3/4 ton truck with a carrier bearing problem. Had to replace it every 20K.

Update: On a hunch I took truck to a transmission shop today and old time mechanic (in business since 1958) correctly diagnosed U joints on drive shaft. Vibration problem and noise are now gone. I had checked the u-joints several weeks ago and there was absolutely no play in them, BUT this mechanic showed me that the joints had fine groves worn into them because they were not correctly heat tempered when manufactured. He commented that its been a common problem with vehicles for more then 25 years. Thanks for your insite. Repair cost me $130.00.
