Where To Buy Electrical Connector

Recommended Posts

Besides the junkyard, where can I buy an electrical connector? I need the 7 way connector that plugs into the resistor pack that controls the cabin fan. I already have the resistor pack, I just need to replace the connector on the harness. Moisture got on the connector, shorted it out, and partially melted the connector.

I often use the rock auto catalog to find the right part. They have a ton of electrical connectors listed for a 2003 silverado. There are quite a few options under blower motor, which I think you need, but I do not know exactly so I am not going to lead you to the wrong one. Look at their catalog and go from there.

I was looking through our old GM service manual, and found the "seat bolster/lumbar switch driver" connector 12052854. I found it as cheap as $1, http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail...YF8dP%2Fw%3D%3D. It looks exactly the same, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

But wait, there's more! There's a special coverage 10240 and 11046 that will cover the repair and replacement of the resistor and harness. It's good for 10 years or 150,000 miles. If you already replaced the part, the dealer has to reimburse you. I've attached 2 pdf's that have the details. I'm taking my truck in to have the dealer fix it.

I took a printed copy of the special coverage 10240 into the dealer. They said my vehicle didn't apply based on the VIN, even thought this is the exact same problem. They call it a VIN break. They said call the hotline 800-222-1020. The hotline was useless. It's like the hotline read from a script. I called the dealer back and am waiting on a discussion with the manager.

I've been asking why my truck isn't covered. My truck meets all the criteria in the special coverage document. Nobody can answer my questions.

I use to work at GM at Milford Proving Grounds. Voltage and Circuit protection testing was my job. Unfortunately GMT800(Silverado) was not my program. Yesterday, I talked to the technician who ran the circuit protection testing on GMT800. He said they burned up several resistor packs during testing. The issue was reported to Management. I think the design managers name is Dave Dufrain. If you're ever in Warren Tech Center, ask Dave why he allowed under-rated wiring on a vehicle and why GM is profiting off of a design flaw.

It appears the new GM is the same old GM. Nothing has changed. I've defend GM to a fault, even though I now work at a Japanese OEM. Just this past spring, my cousins Suburban burnt their house down, and almost killed her whole family. They got out of the house with their pajamas on. Way to go GM! But wait, it gets worse, they took the Suburban to the dealer several times before for the fog lamps. The fog lamps would turn on at random, even when the vehicle was parked. Tyrone Township Fire Department quickly identified the source of the fire, the Suburban. After the investigation, GM came and took the vehicle. My cousin quickly got a million dollars for her trouble.

Now that the economy has improved, I was thinking of going back to GM. Why bother? Nothing has changed.

I ordered the connector, 12052854, from Mouser. It's the exact same connector. You'll also want terminals, 12015858. Since the parts are so cheap, I would recommend ordering a few connectors and extra terminals. Cheapest shipping via USPS was about $8 and was quick. I installed the connector and have been using the AC this weekend. If you don't have a terminal crimper or the experience, I would recommend ordering one of the kits for $25 that includes the larger wire with terminals already installed. Another option, if you need to replace both the resistor and connector, there were a couple of websites that you could order the two parts as a package and save a bit of money.
