3 On The Tree Change

hey im changing my stock three on the tree tranny in my 84 gmc 1500 2wd i know i have to change the colum and linkages but when im taking the 3 on the tree out will i have to change the flywheel? and do i have to unbolt anything before i take the tranny away from the motor except bellhousing bolts and the tranny mount and driveshaft

Remove the shift linkage & speedometer cable housing also...don't know what else there might be,can't be much.Have you been under the truck and actually looked at what's there?

What are you going to do when you get the column and tranny out. I don't see any reference to any mods.

Why change the column out? Just knock the roll pin out of the shift lever and be done with it. If you are putting a standard back in it you will need the same fly wheel if you are changing to a automatic then you will need to change the flywheel. Need to know what you are putting back in its place to know what else you might need.

im changing it to an automatic i thought id have to change the colum cause the 3 on the tree is different it has 2 seperate linkages and i know i have to change the flywheel out i have the tranny dropped and the pressure plate and clutch out along with the old flywheel

That was the reason I said just take the lever off, I thought that he might be going to a floor shifter. If he is going to an auto then he can either floor shift it or put in another steering column. I have done both but it is easier to put a auto in place of a standard than put the standard in and take out an automatic.
