Optima batteries

Are the Optima batteries a good battery upgrade or just stick with a good Interstate or Diehard???  Was looking into a new battery, just wanted to see the replies before spending 140 bucks on an Optima.  Gotta feed those amplifiers :D

optima's are the best batteries around  plus their dry cell to

I have an exide right now because my battery was dead and I didn't have time to order one but an optima will be my next

Yes!  I have owned 3 (in different vehicles)and have never been disappointed.  I got 9 years service out of one before I traded the vehicle.

I've got a couple of the red tops. Had em for probably 5 to 6 years. One size fits all, well sorta...

I dropped one in a Caddy with the side posts and had to tug on the cables more than I would have liked to connect. No problems though. This car tends to sit all winter and I only start it occasionally. The previous (conventional) battery froze. Not the Optima.

I will never buy another battery -- umm that's not true -- I mean I'll stick with the Optimas. I paid $135 for mine thru Summit Racing (only place I could find em). Glad to hear that they can be had for $109 at the local Pep Boys.

A lot of people say that all Optimas are the same thing, just different color tops.  Don't waste money on a yellow top, get the red if you want an optima.  If you don't listen to your stereo or anything without turning on the truck, there is no point in spending so much for an optima.  The battery plays no role in supplying power to your amps when you have the truck on, it's all on the alternator.

It does help act like a capacitor if your alternator is falling short though.  But this will only take effect if you are running a big multi-amp setup

Im going on 7 years on a red top in my daily driver.

Optima batteries are worth twice what they cost in no maintainance, they NEVER corrode, and they just plain work.

Id rather pay for a Optima, thatn have a leaky corroding Normal battery for free.

DeezBluez,

Get one and say goodbye to the screwdriver and water! I've had several and the only problem I've had is that they went down in the car that I wasn't driving for several months. But that's my fault and not the battery. Had 2 red tops and a yellow. The last red top went away when I traded my vette and I never had a problem with it. The only maintanence you'd have to do with it is to charge it if it goes down for some reason.

I used to own an Xterra and the offroad club I belonged to was solid behind Optima. I bought one and definitely saw a difference is how well my X started. Red tops are for more "starting" power and yellow tops are better for when you're pulling a lot of juice from your system. The guys I knew running winches always went with yellow tops.

When my stock battery starts to crap out, I'll buy an Optima for sure.

I concur with the rest here. I bought the red top and love it. I have a habit of playing my MP3 player for hours on end while in the woods and have killed stock batteries many times. This Optima is great. Never killed it yet. I paid $139.00 for mine at AutoZone here in Rockingham, NC. I bought the only one they had ever sold. Advance here didn't even have them. I guess in a poor county like this no one can justify spending that much on a battery. But the saying is true. You get what you pay for. :D
