Has anyone installed an aftermarket deck without using the interface cable that u gotta buy extra? i dont feel like dropping 180 on that cable. So i made my own cable that plugs in the factory harness to the new head unit and when i try to bypass it, i get security alerts on my dic screen in the truck. Anyone got any ideas!? haha

They make a ~$20 premade harness if you don't care about on star or door chime. It comes with a long accessory wire that you tap into a fuse location. I put in a ton of those when I did car stereos professionally and never got a security message. How did you wire the harness?

I dont care about my door chimes at all and i dont have onstar either and i do have that pre-made harness. So on the harness you will have your speakers, 12v constant, 12v ignition switch, and ground.

 

So you hook all that up but what about the 12v ignition? cause coming off the deck it goes to that wire to right? What i did was hooked those two up, harness to new head unit harness, then spliced off to a 12v source that turned on when i turned the truck on. then i got a security message. What do you do?

The factory harness does have power, ground and speakers and you just need to find an accessory source. Did you do anything with the GM LAN (don't remember what color it is) but if you did something with that it might through an error or maybe you tapped into something for ignition that is reisstance monitored. Where did you tap in?

 

i was just trying illistrate that the OEM Radio does not have any truck security function and that the $100 modules aren't needed to not throw a warning.

What is the GM LAN? And to be honest I cant even remember what i tapped into. This was two months ago when i did this and lately my deck is pissn me off while i got a dvd deck sitting on the shelf at home doing nothing.

 

So if i were to splice into my 12v accessory plug in, like a cigarette lighter cause that turns on when the key turns on, Bring that wire into the 12v ignition on the deck?

so i found an accessory to use in my fuse panel that turns on when my key is engaged. Now this is my question. Since i have the $20 harness. I plug that into my factory harness, then hook everything up except the 12v ignition. Take the 12v ignition from the head unit and take it to the 12v source i found, thus the one in the $20 harness merited and taped. Am i right?

      Hi,   I work a steep boat landing that has patchy blacktop going down the hill and soft sand/gravel at the bottom. Due to low water levels, it's not always possible reach the blacktop. I've had to help several people get out this year already and with fall coming, I'm anticipating more. I always use 4L. There was a gentleman there today with a 2500 HD (actually 2 - him and his son both have them) and they were trying to get his son's wake boat out. This gentleman swears that you should use 4H in the soft gravel. Says he was a farmer and you always use higher gear when stuck. I was wonder what your thoughts on this are? If I'm wrong, it would be good to find out before things get busy.

      Looking for feedback from users of roll up aluminum slat bed covers who have had it for more than 3 years. I prefer the aluminum slat style over supported vinyl covers due to security and the capacity to support a light load. The slight loss of bed opening when rolled up is not an issue. Presently have BAK Revolver the "industrial grade vinyl overlay" on mine is shrinking & coming loose at the rear and on both sides in addition to cracking at some of the folding joints. Truck lives outdoors in NC latitude. Can't justify the steep price to replace it with another one if that's the expected lifespan. Do you have a better alternative?

      Thanks, your last sentence is the root of my problem, outdoors truck and southern latitude = UV overload. Looking at replacing with Rough Country powder coated aluminum slat roll up model.

      I’m looking at putting a lift in my 2024 gmc sierra 1500 elevation trim, has anyone had any luck with fitting a bigger tire under the rear for a spare?? Was gonna go with a 4 inch zone lift Also what wheel and tire size setup are you all running? Wondering if I can get away with keeping around the stock size a 33 inch, and just get some new wheels to have enough back spacing then I can just keep my original spare tire I have under the truck now.
