Tires For Trailblazer

Well it's been 10 and a half months and 24,200 miles since I bought the Trailblazer.  Just took it in for state inspection and the tires will not pass due to lack of tread.  Very disappointing for an OEM tire.  I DO NOT want to put these back on (BFG Open Trail T/A).  What is a good replacement?  Anyone tried anything yet?  Looking for a high milage tire that is good in the rain and will work ok in the snow.  Should I try BFG Long Trail T/A's?  BFG is giving me mixed feelings right now.  Looking to put stock size back on which is P245/70 or 75/16.  I have to wait until I pick the car up to see if it has 70 or 75's on it, I can't remember.  Thanks in advance.

try some yokohama avs s/t  for the street stance or yokohama geolanders for offroad look

they are making the best looking tires right now, and mine have lasted for a long time.

I have a set of the avs s/t on my 20's on my silverado, and i'll probably put the same set on our trailblazer when the time comes

Anyone ever hear of Nokian tires (www.nokiantire.com)?  The are made in Finland and are supposed to great on wet and snow covered surfaces.  I was looking at the WR model that is all season but is Severe Service rated.  The few reviews I have found say that they are good tires.  They look really neat in the picture, almost like a performance tire.  Is it worth trying something I never heard of?  My supplier says he has had good luck with them so far.

How can you have the most wins and finish eight in the Nascar Winston Cup Series?

There is a "B" grade to almost every automotive product (production and aftermarket). The BFG production tires had a treadwear of just 300, jsut enough to make it through the next inspection. The tires have been properly inflated and rotated on a regular basis? The rear tires will not pass either.

Weird, too early for the softest of tires to below legal (3/32") on all four. Buy a Kelly Safari SUV. Excellent dry/wet traction, 50,000 mile warranty. I am running Kelly's and quite pleased!

Have a great one!

I checked the treadwear on the OEM BFG's - 420!  I got the report from the dealer last night as far as remaining tread.  RF - 2/32, L/F - 3/32, R/R - 5/32, L/R - 6/32.  Although the rears still have some tread left, I might as well put 4 of the same tires on, especially with potential snow coming.

I have the stock tires on my 2002 Envoy. They are 17" Michelin XUV's or whatever their new tire is. So far they are quiet and are excellent in the rain. Much better than the Goodyear Wranglers that came stock on my Jimmy.

I've got 31" Yokohama Geolander's on my ride - I really like the look of them and they are guarenteed for 80K km. :puke:

Well, I ended up ordering a set of Nokian WR's for $99.50 each.  They just got delivered and the look great.  Almost looks like a high performance tire.  They are supposed to be great in wet weather.  As long as they get decent milage, they should be a good tire.  I'll try to put them on this weekend and then keep everyone updated on how I like them.

Well, we got 8" of snow yesterday and the Nokian's worked perfectly.  As I expected they would because they are basically a snow tire designed for all year use.  My wife who usually has bad luck driving in the snow made it up our unplowed lane (I wasn't home yet to plow and expected to see her car sitting at the bottom) which is 0.7 miles long and climbs about 200' in elevation.  She said she had no problems spinning and they were great on the slush covered roads.  So, as long as they get good treadwear, they will be a great all around tire,

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
