Hi to all, just joined this site and well i need a little advice, I have a 1990 Gmc 2500 4x4 Std Cab and I need to replace the front rotors, the chilton and haynes books dont give a great description on this, and anyone I talk to here says to remove the brake caliper and holder and basically hammer the existing rotors off, (8 lug wheels) but I ripped it apart yesterday and it looks to me like the hub bolt needs to be off in order to change the rotors, Im a bit miffed here, so if any one has any ideas that would be awesome,

thanks

You should not need to remove the hub bolt. The rotar should sit around the hub assembly, it may be tight and rusted on, but it is not part of the hub assembly. I have had it before where the rotar needed a three arm puller, torch, and hammer. After the rotar was heated from the outside, in it broke appart in three pieces. Im betting the rust is holding tight. PB blaster for a few days as best you can the try a big hammer. Maybe someone else can shed some more light on it.

I think he was referring to the topic title that states the truck is 110 years old haha...

Anyway, what has worked for me with stuck rotors was this product called "KROIL" its a REAL thin 'creeping oil'. I squrted it on the hub where the rotor and hub meet, waited about 5 minutes for the oil to soak in, and tap tap with a mallet and it popped right off.
