hey guys, i just bought an 09 sierra 1500. it has what looks like some sort of 5th wheel setup in the bed. ill get the truck home tomorrow and take pics. but its a maybe 14 inch or square square piece with what looks like a bar thats folded over flat. i havent played with it as i just bought it and broke my leg pretty bad the next day so the dealer is dropping it off to me tomorrow after 2, but im wondering if anyone has a picture of a 5th wheel setup without that big toilet seat disc, not sure what its called sorry, and if what mine has is a setup for a 5th wheel, when i remove it would i be stuck with a big chunk of floor missing out of my box?

also the only reason i assume its a 5th wheel setup is because the owner also re wired the 7 pin connector into the box of the truck

i think it may be some sort of gooseneck setup. this is the best i could do, keep in mind the tonneau cover was closed and ive got a badly broken leg so its hard to get pics and move around on crutches and stuff.

That's a gooseneck hitch. Removing the plate will leave a square hole in the bed.

thats what i figured, and the bed is rhino lined so even if i replace it ill hve to re line it. hmm. ill leave it i guess. do the goose neck balls all fold under the plate or do they un screw aswell? i cant get back there yet to check but the bar on the side looks like it may lock and unlock something. almost as if it would move to allow the ball to swing up. im gonna try to take a look under the truck and see if i can see the ball under there, no guarantees ill be able to do that, thanks for the reply

That is a B&W flip ball. It is a great set up you will pull up on the curved plate and it will flip the ball up and then you put the plate back down and it will hold the ball in the up right position. Then when you need the flat floor just reverse and drop the ball back down. Just be careful if you haul sand, gravel, or rocks they can and will get around the plate and ball and make it hard to get it up. (experence talking there.)

unless you want a lot of work just put a under rail bed liner in it ,a lot easer and cheaper in the long run .

excellent thanks alot for the reply. that clears it all up. maybe ill send my wife in there to try and flip it up for me, lol. what i may do is make a cover out of a piece of sheet met that sits over that for when i do need to haul any kind of loose stuff. or gorilla tape as it works for everything

The BIG question I would be asking here is what the heck was the previous owner towing with a half ton pickup that required a gooseneck in bed ball? SCARY!

no idea, but he left those big sexy towing mirrors on and a tekonsha, think thats how its spelt, brake controller. the truck has another 98000 km of gm powertrain warranty and the tranny shifts flawlessly. guessing maybe a camper trailer. from what i can tell he hasnt added a leaf to the rear and i didnt notice any other form of supporting the extra weight. guess its better to put the weight ove rthe axle then at the rear of the truck.

the cabin filter had a smell of horse ass trapped in it and i had the dealer replace it, maybe a horse trailer? who knows.

The cabin filter? You must have the same dealer who told that guy in the other thread his top glove box was cooled.
