Oem Nav Radio And Bluetooth Questions

First and foremost, I know that BT is contained in the VCIM, and NOT the head unit.

For those that have the OEM nav unit in thier 09+ trucks...

My question is what does the head unit do when a call comes in via BT? (Or via the OnStar phone) Does the call info show on the screen, or on the instrument panel as normal? Both? When it mutes the radio (as it does on the CD/DVD head units) what appears on the nav screen during a call?

09 Sierra with Nav, OnStar and Bluetooth... when a call comes in on the Nav it shows a telephone handset in blue color on the screen in the top right corner but it doesn't show the caller id info, bluetooth I'm not sure ... Outgoing call it shows the call info still on my instrument cluster nothing on the Nav unit.

Thanks. Thats disappointing, considering what the nav screen COULD be used for... Was looking at 2011 2500's, and saw what the RAM 2500 nav unit does... on-board hard drive, full caller info on screen, phone book etc. Surprised that the GM nav is so lacking.

maybe someday with a firmware upgrade ? I'm sure that it could do a lot more than it does currently.

yeah the GM unit is on par with what was out in 2004-2005 Bluetooth and Feature wise..

The ONLY thing I like about the unit is the ability to send GPS routing from Google maps or the OnStar App.

once my free directions and connections plan is expired, I think I will be only maintaining the basic OnStar service with theft recovery (as I get a $600 a year discount on my insurance for having the theft recovery features) and go aftermarket..

the Advent does all the stuff I believe the OEM should be doing in 2011.

Sad that GM is so far behind the times in this area, back in 2000 they were one of the leaders in vehicle entertainment and communications features..

Yeah after seeing what the new Ram's were capable of entertainment and feature-wise ... as well as the Ford SYNC system (BT integration/A2DP etc) is pretty slick on my gf's new Escape.

My wanting a '11 Silverado 2500 may be challenged... :)

The sad part about that is the mopar mygig unit you are talking about has been in Chrysler vehicles since 2008. And their 2012 unit kicks its ass. It's much better and includes a 8.4" screen. And performance gauges and obd II readout on the screen has the ability to customize the boot up and background pictures and true ipod integration for the ipod and iPad.

So even that much MORE capable than GM's equivalent :)

Anything like it coming in the 2012 Silvy's?
