I took truck into dealer yesterday, explained the situation and they said that all is normal. I could also tell that they we not really all familiar with the grade braking feature or the HD gasser transmission.

I am hoping I can get an answer about this.

I traded my 2010 2500 6.0 for a 2012 6.0 last week. Both trucks identical except for year model. Grade braking with the new truck is not aggressive at all as compared to the old truck. Old truck was very aggressive. I always had to warn my wife when pulling the trailer that the grade brake was about to come on so she would not panic when it kicked in.

I liked the aggressive grade brake. GM must have had complaints about the aggressive grade braking.

I noticed exactly the same thing....difference in grade braking from my 07 2500HD in tow/haul mode vs. my 2014 2500 HD. 07 very aggressive and really would wind out the truck.....2014 hardly noticeable. Just recently bought the 14 and have less than 2k miles. We don't have any real serious long decents around where I live but I did notice on some of teh short descents when I purposeoly applied teh brakes hard on descent in tow haul mode (towing about 10K) the truck just downshifted one time, not even close to how the 07 would downshift. The entire purpose of grade braking was to have that being an automatic function... Was looking around the web on the subject tonight. Downshitting one gear on a aggresive stop from 70mph to savy 35mph in a fairly steep hill while towing is not grade breaking in my book.

I have an 09 Silverado 1500 WT with 4.8--4L60E--Manual transfer case--4WD--Nice truck with 65000 miles Tow Haul has never worked loaded or unloaded since I bought it. It also has a tendency to "coast" in second gear. Took it to the dealer under warranty and he said...That truck is operating within the parameters set forth by GM for that truck that year. That makes me wonder if GM "degraded" the Tow haul system on that truck. However mine never works under any condition. I have exactly the same truck in a 99 with 265000 mil;es and it works fine. Just as you would expect. Any ideas? Thanks.. Arnie

In my 2014 when I'm going down the hill towards town, Grade Braking On is displayed when I get on the brakes mid way down the hill while not in tow/haul mode. Seems to down shift one gear but not very noticeable.

Hello ziffel,

I’m sorry this wasn’t the resolution you were seeking. If interested, I’d be glad to contact another dealership for a second opinion regarding your tow haul concerns . Feel free to send me a private message with your full contact information, VIN, and the dealership if this is something of interest. I’m happy to help any way I can.

2011 GMC 2500HD CCSB 4WD 6.0/6sp/3.73 and grade braking works great.

When I gently apply the brakes in tow haul mode, it depends on the gear and rpms on whether it downshifts, if I let off brake and get on brake again, it will downshift aggressively and stay there until I press the accelerator or turn off T/H.

Works as expected, love it for holding back travel trailer without riding the brakes.

My old 2011 5.3 6 speed 2wd when i put that in tow/haul while stopping and starting in traffic people would stare.... It would downshift all the way to 5500 through all the gears and i would grin as i slowed in traffic. I loved it, my favorite feature. I wish my 02 sub would do that. It would surprise the piss out of people in stopped traffic pulling up at 5K. The whole truck would lurch forward too like it was being rear ended by a bulldozer. I think it had 3.73s
