Rear Brake Pads Question

Hello, I removed the rear wheels on my truck just to inspect the condition of the rear brake pads and was surprised that it looks like maybe 25% lining remaining on the pads. My truck has the original 26,300 miles from an older one owner man. He never used the truck for any real work (hauling or towing). I usually always get well over 80k (got 175k on my T-Bird) on the rear pads on all the other vehicles I have owned. Is this kind of wear normal? BTW, the front pads are factory original too and look like they have approx 50% lining left.

Thanks!

How do the rotors look?

My '03 disc pads & rotors self destructed @ +/- 50K mi.s.

Common problem much documented here. Hence GM's rationale to change back to rear drum brakes.

(I just changed orig. front pads @ 110K mi.s. Still had a little meat left!)

Normal? Not too sure however, from what I've read on this forum the older 4 wheel discs brake tended to wear the rear pads faster/harder than the fronts. Differences in the pressures sent to the front & rear. Mine is rear brake shoes so I have the opposite problem. Again this is only what I've read on this forum. Do some searching & hope you can find a satisfactory answer to your question. BTW don't let the "litte old man" theory deceive you as my dad (60+) is still extremely hard on vehicles, especially brakes.

My truck does the same, wears the rear brake pads in ~50k miles (2003 Silverado LT). I thought it was odd also, but one of the employees at Napa said his truck did the same thing. It has always stopped excellent and pads aren't that expensive so I don't think much of it. I think my front pads last at least 2x as long as the rears.

I have an 04 and it does the same thing. Those back brakes play a large part in the stopping. My fronts always last about twice as long.
