Trimming W/ 35's

So my rims were delivered today, I just placed my order for General Grabber At 2's from tirerack.com for an out the door price of 1226.93... those are 33x12.5x20.

But now that I'm looking at comparative 35x12.5x20 the cost difference for me is like 10 dollars total. So I'm debating changing my tire size to the 35's but I need to know how much trimming I'm going to need to do with the 6'' BDS lift.

Any help/pictures would be much appreciated!

-On a side note, I'm not looking at doing a BL with the suspension at this point, and I dont really want to cut metal.

with NNBS trucks the BIGGEST factor in fitting 35's PROPERLY with a 6" lift is the width and backspacing of the wheels. WITH the proper wheel you will still need to trim, but it will be minimal. Take that from someone with a 6" lifted NNBS that has had 3 different sets of wheels.

Well I ordered the 20x9 Fuel Offroad "Gauge" rims with a +14mm offset. They were delivered today, but they accidentally sent me a +20mm offset.

If I'm going to be running 35's what would be the better rim here?

+ 20 and your still gonna have to trim. The 35s are going to effect the driveability of the truck more than the 33's. Remember when your doing 35s you should also look into gears, and a tune and some tranny mods. Very least do a tranny tune and some servos or a shift kit.. Truck will still be a dog, but atleast a tune and servos should preserve the transmission somewhat.

So maybe just stick with 33s... I know that the regear alone would be upwards of 2k.

Well looks like ill be sending these back for +144

for 9" wide wheels the +14 will be perfect, more than that is too much. you have a vortec max so you have the 4L70 tranny so your good there. you either have 3.73's or 4.10's if you have 4.10's your good. you will want a tune either way. as for gears, where in the hell are you going that they are over 2k? they should be a little more than HALF that INSTALLED.

I have the 08 5.3 with 3.73s and 35s. I havent regeared, just have a custom ECM/TCM tune and billet servos in tranny. The tranny temps run OK and it shifts great and I think it should hold up just fine, BUT its a dog. Wouldnt be as bad with the 6-speed.

Also the difference in +14 and +20 is only 6mm... its hardly noticeable.

Just pulled the build sheet for my truck, looks like I have 3.73s. How much are you thinking for a tune?

And how soon should I tune/re-gear? I just hit 50k for the odo and I want to make sure the tranny lasts another 50.

Lastly, return the +20mm offset for the +14mm?

Where did u get the servos and how much did they run ya?

I am running the corvette 1-2 servo and the sonnax billet 4th hold servo. I think it was less that $75 bucks for everything. There is also the option to go with the sonnax 1-2 servo, its tighter than the vette servo, BUT if you are running a tune, and have the line pressure increased, and torque management eliminated, the vette servo is plenty.

I hardly beat on the truck, but if i do a full throttle shift from 1-2 gear it will scratch 2nd gear even with the 35s. If you drive the truck normally, it just clicks into gear perfectly and you can feel it slightly, but it feels like it should be shifting, instead of slipping into 2nd like the OEM setup does.

I threw the 35s in my 08 with 50K on it as well. I am hoping it lasts as-is until the new body style trucks come out then this ones gone. With the VMAX and 3.73 im sure it would behave a little better than my truck with the 5.3 and 35s, BUT im sure ur MPG will be horrible. I guess i should mention that I had 33x12.5x20s and a fabtech kit on for the first 50K of the trucks life, with NO tune, no tranny mods. THey are heavy tires too and are def. harder on the truck that a smaller lighter tire. Even with the 305/50/20s or 33x12.5x20s I would recommend a tune and tranny work to keep the temps down and get your OEM performance back.

Edit: Just realized that you indeed have a different tranny than me, I dont know much about it, mods for it, etc. I know you can get it tuned and I recommend that regardless of which size tire you get. Both tires are like 80-90 lbs and its hard on the truck. I would think to get the thing to last 100k with 35s you will need a regear, but thats speculation. If u went 33s I would do at least a tune. You can sell your programmer to help fund it. Tunes like $250+ depending on what you want. There are vendors here on this site that are great at tuning these trucks.

you will still have to trim with 35's no matter what you buy for rims dude. NNBS are crappy for bigger tires, cant fit anything. as for gears...dont waste your time. if you got 3:73s it still wont be that bad man...unless your racing across the desert it aint worth it. get a tune and be done with it. if you already have decent gears its a waste of time IMO...your not racing anyone with 35's on ur truck. and the little gas mileage and low end pull youll gain its not worth the cash. spend $2000 bucks on Long tube headers, cam and tune for that cash....dont be silly man

RIGHT, it's a 4L70. a hybrid between the 60E and 80E.

a good tune with EFI Live should be about $300. with the 3.73's you SHOULD be ok if you never tow. if you regularly tow i'd go with 4.56's
