Remote Start

I am looking at purchasing a 2009+ Silverado 1500, and my question is if the truck does not have an RPO code of AU0 is it impossible to add the remote start? Is there any kind of aftermarket way to add it.

Thanks

I just had a dealership run a couple of VINs and one is 2009 and the other is a 2010 both have an RPO code of AP8. One dealership deals me that I can add the remote start with the AP8 RPO code and another dealership says I can't add it, that it can only add the advanced remote for long distance unlocking of the doors. Which one is correct?

I'm fairly certain that you can add an aftermarket remote start with that code...just not add the factory remote start. Someone here will know 100% for sure though.

there is always the viper route, full aftermarket... i have the oem one and prefer viper by far

I'm getting a Viper 5301 installed on Nov 5/11....can't wait!! This is a two way remote start with a 2000 ft range...the GM unit can't come close to that range.

As long as it has the AP8(RS prep package), then U can add the GM OEM remote start, either standard

or advanced.

The GM package has two RS key fobs and the unlock code for GM to unlock the RS in the BCM.

Ok so I just bought a 2010 today. It does have the AP8 RPO code....so it has the remote start prep package. Now gmpartsdirect say I need the 19213166 part...this looks like it is the advanced kit including the transmitter, receiver, antenna, hardware, etc. The local dealership says they won't even install that part because it is too time consuming. Is there another part # that will use the existing prep package in the truck that is cheaper and all they have to do is program the remotes and the computer? Also does anyone know if gmpartsdirect ship these parts with the code that is needed for the installer to give GM so they can download the install code or whatever they need?
