Bose Oem Tweets Toast..

title says it all.

 

2006 GMC 2500HD Sierra 6.6L SLE Crewcab with the stock Bose system.

 

In the A Pillars are two tweeters. I am looking if there are direct AfterMarket replacements available and as such ask here for suggestions as to brand/PN/Description etc.

 

My research on other forums etc shows these tech specs for the OEM set-up.

 

1" - 4 ohms tweeters

 

3.5"- 4 ohms center ( I'm not that sure that I even have this in my truck.??) can anyone confirm using model / type.??

 

5.25"- 4 ohms rear doors

 

6.5"- 2 ohms front doors and sub

 

 

I also see that there are a number of replacements for the front side doors that incorporate tweeters as well. Is it common practice to disengage the pillar tweets in favour of a 2 way door speaker.?? and is that something that might be recommended with the requisite sound deadening. (something i want to do anyway).

I'm about 95% positive that you either have to:

 

 

a) replace with bose OEM part

 

b) if you want to go aftermarket you will have to add an aftermarket amplifier to power your new speakers and if you're doing this you had just as soon replace all of your speakers

 

 

 

the bose amp will either not be compatible or if it is compatible will not send enough power to an aftermarket speaker

 

 

 

as far as location goes, the pillar location is probably acoustically better than just having the two way speakers in the door, so I would replace with a nice component set of speakers and keep the tweets in the pillars
