My driver's side mirror shakes like an earthquake!

This is on my 2000 Silverado (base model)

At highway speeds my drivers side mirror shakes like there's some kinda massive california earthquake... non-stop.

It's so bad that I can barely even tell what kind of car is behind me if they are tailgating.

The dealer has swapped out the mirror including the black plastic around it 2-3 times now.  At least they claim to have done so,

Anyhow, if they truely are replacing it, what else could be the problem?  Every time they swap it it seems to be somewhat better for a little while (or maybe it's just my imagination) but within just a couple hundred miles it's crap again.

Is this a known issue?  Any TSBs out on it? ???

On a base model there is no power adjustment...  am I right?

If so, then I bet there is just a hex screw in side the housing that is tightened up to increase the "holding power" of the mirror.

If the glass is all that is shaking, then maybe the dealer replaced the glass, but the problem is more than that.  I bet they need to replace the whole housing assembly.

I don't really know for sure since I haven't looked very closely at the manual mirrors, but that is my best guess.

The last 4 GM vehicles I've bought all had that problem, but only the driver's side mirror and all were motor adjustable.  In one case, my Alero, the replacement was much better.

My '03 does it too, and I have new ones on order, but in this case it was the entire "pivot" area that was lose.  I'm hoping the new mirror glass is better too as they had to order the whole assembly.

Don't have a flector but why would it cause the mirror to shake.

Also I noticed driving down the highway with my hand on the mirror housing, that part doesn't shake, just the glass.

Mostly on older trucks, especially S-10's the hood flector would disrupt the normal flow of air over the truck, therefore the mirrors would vibrate or shake.
