Replacing 6 Cd Changer With Mp3 Player Audio Jack

Recommended Posts

I'd like to replace my 6 cd changer with an input jack that I could connect an mp3 player or smart phone to. Normally I'd just use one of those tape deck things but the tape deck and single cd player have both quit working years ago. Is there a relatively inexpensive way to do this? I'm not worried about how it will look, just that it works.

Thanks in advance. :)

aftermarket radio with a front AUX input or USB input.

check out crutchfield. they have a really good selection to find the one you want, but once you find the one you like, i woud suggest buying it elsewhere, or see what your local audio shop has

Thanks for the quick reply. I always just figured there was some adapter I could buy and do it like that. Didn't even THINK about a new stereo. Now I just gotta find something that's compatible with my Android phones.

Does it have the "headphone jack" input and how would I install it? Also, is that the jack underneath the vent, by your airbag switch?

In my truck the XMC-GM9 plugs into the factory radio and sits right behind the AC controls. The XMC-GM9 has left and right female RCA plugs. You'll nedd to buy a cable with Male RCAs on one end and the headphone jack on the other. In my case I bought a cable that I screwed right into my dash (do a search on "Poly Planar IC3.5PM"). Yes, it is the jack you see underneath the vent by the air bag switch. There is a potective cover over the hole in the picture. You might want to buy a different cable and run it to the glove box or just leave it hanging under the dash.

Make sure you check out pie.net for compatibility. Even if what I have doesn't work, you should be able to find what you need at PIE

Unfortunately, the XMC-GM9 is for 1995-2002 radios, the 2003+ radios require a different adapter.

Here's the cheapest way to add an auxiliary input to your truck, but it does require that you have XM. You don't have to be subscribed, you just have to be able to select the XM band on your radio: http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/in...p?topic=93646.0

If you want something more fancy than that or don't have XM, your best bet would be an aftermarket headunit or the iSimple ISGM575 like mawint posted. I also have the iSimple and it works great, it adds full iPod/iPhone integration and an auxiliary input.
