I have a small area on the back of my truck where some paint was chipped off and some surface rust is beginning to form. I am planning on fixing it this next week during thxgvg break and I am wondering if my plan is a good one. What I am wanting to do is:

1. Sand surface rust off and pick off loose paint.

2. Clean area thoroughly with soap and water.

3. Paint on 1 coat of primer.

4. Paint on 2-3 coats of paint.

5. Paint on clear coat.

Does this sound right and do you think this will be a permanent fix? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!!

How big is the chip?

It is about the size of a quarter - half dollar. The bumper got pushed in a bit and that caused it to chip on the right rear panel.
