LMC now sells the stock headlight housing with a black background

Posted

Sorry for the late reply, but I did not want to step on anyones toes. There is a possible conflict of interest here with sponsers. It's just that so many people have a negative reaction to hi-end headlights due to the misconception that they all blind on-coming drivers or look prissy.

The set-up I posted above is from the site mentioned above. They sell only the components but there are links and recommended vendors who can do the work. The Ebay stuff is just pure junk and causes the majority of the complaints by other drivers. What is happening is the light of a true HID needs focus, which can only be had thru a true projector lens system. If you have ever seen the lights on a high end automobile like a Lexus SC480, BMW, Mercedes, Infinity, etc you will see the type of light I am talking about. Now take that awesome light and add a clear lens and the night comes alive (but only up to the cut-off on the low beams and unlimited on the high beams).

I chose to go with the quad set-up which will provide 2 sets of lamps since both the low beam and high beam on the stock set-up will be capable of high & low beams (Bi-Xenon). I was worried that with 4 low beams some people would be upset and would flash me, but the beam is os controlled on low-beam it will not be a problem. Another benefit is if one of them goes out, I still have a full set of lamps for both hi/low beams from the second set. This set-up will look like the pics above, but I am going to play with some goodies to give it a cool look at night... stay tuned.

I had retrofitted HIDS in my TBSS....

Not cheap, I had it done by a shop, cost me 600 for the retrofit not including housings, i provided them with stock headlight housings.

I will most likely just end up with a project headlight assembly, something like the ones on LMC and other websites.

Wow, that was alot. your generation truck headlights are actually alot easier to do if you are a DIY kind of guy. Mine were hard......http://www.jrrod2004.com/silverado/hidretrofit.html
