Son's 2005 CHEV C1500 5.3L w/ 130K miles. Coolant warning came on, guage showed near maximum. Coolant in reservoir at normal level. Holiday weekend will make finding a repair shop difficult. Recommendation? Thank you. --Bryant

Start with the easy stuff first.

Check the thermostat.

Make sure there is no air in the system.

Check the gauge itself.

Need a lot more info.......

Hot while idling? ...... Pulling a hill? .......driving in traffic?

There a quite a few things that can make an engine over-heat.

Common suspects..... thermostat and fan clutch.

If you replace the thermostat, be sure to install a factory rated one.... preferably AC/Delco.
