Weird sound when truck is Cold....

Havent owned my truck through a winter yet so this may be a normal sound I am hearing.

2007; 5.3 AFM; 35,000 miles

I have no burning oil problems and no other problems to speak about. When I start the truck on a cold morning, (20-35 degrees) it starts right up without a problem. I warm the truck up and go on my way. When Im creaping through my neighborhood the sound that I get from the engine is like "Whirling" sound almost. Happens as the RPMS raise up, under 2000rpms.

Im very easy on the the truck all the time, especially when on cold mornings.

What do you guys think.

Is the noise coming through the speakers? I ask because when my iphone is pluged into the aux port but not playing music, it'll create the whirling sound.

Only other time I heard the whirl in the engine bay was with my old 98 grand am. Turned out to be the Power Steering pump.

It is the engine fan. In cold weather the fluid in the fan clutch thickens and takes a few minutes to respond to the thermosstatic element. Just turn up the radio and enjoy the ride.

GM went to electric fans in 2006....

Actually what you are probably hearing is the cold air getting sucked through the air intake. The vehicle is trying to get more air so it get actually get more gas to try and heat the engine up faster. The reason you don't hear this as much when you stomp on it at high speeds is simply because the engine roar and other things become louder then the air intake at those speeds. However at low speeds it is quite easy to hear it. I live up in Canada with -30 to -45 Celsius (-49 Fahrenheit) winters. Be happy that's all you hear from your truck, not the cracking, whining, clunking and other terrible sounds we hear through winter.

Makes sense.

I heard it again today..truck sat all night, 34 degrees when I started the truck. Whirling sound while it accelerates. Gone within 2 or 3 miles. Almost sounds like metal on metal whirling...
