After buying my new to me truck in the summer (2005 Silverado Ext cab 5.3), I have had multiple problems and sunk a lot of money into it. The dealer I bought it from was a pain in the ass, which never makes me want to buy a car again. Well since I bought the truck, here is what was wrong or replaced:

by the way, my dealer is 2 hours away from me so i had to drive back and forth.

Knock sensors- dealer replaced finally after begging them

Bad Hub Bearings- dealer replaced and told me they should not have to do this

Adjusted the doors- the doors were sagging and barely shutting. Dealer whined but finally fixed it.

Locking differential- was locking on turns, and after checking it out lied to me saying it just needed new oil. Had problems with it again and again, and finally they looked at it and said it was the ring and pinion gears or something, and that it should have been replaced a long time ago.

Locking differential seal- was leaking the oil after the dealer fixed it (not a big deal, but did cost me money to drive all the way there and back)

Transmission leak- The rear transmission seal was leaking, i paid to fix it for $100

Another Transmission leak- Starting leaking out of some hose in the front right after the mechanic fixed the rear seal leak. Its sitting at the mechanic now, and im waiting for a price.

Tie Rods- Ordered new tie rods to replace the old one, they are about done with, which i think is why my front end rattles every once in a while.

Fog Lights- This was a small thing, but what is irritating is that they broke because they were superglued into place. Im sure the dealer did that just to get it off the lot.

Intermediate Stearing shaft and steering column bearing- was rattling so much that i had to fix it.

Im sure that there will be more things to fix soon, there always is. I just feel like this truck has been a money pit. Im debating saving up and getting as much out of this truck as i can and buy a z71. These problems have gotten me seriously thinking about going back to Ford, but i love chevy and think i just got a lemon. I guess i just thought all these things should work and be fixed when you buy a car.

Would you sell it?

You might want to check into an extended warranty, it would cost less than what you would lose if you sold or traded in your truck.

Either you got a truck that just had bad parts from factory, or maybe the last person beat it too hell and the parts are now givin up.

Did you test drive it at all before buying it? Do a full inspection yourself by crawling underneath it? You could've just had the bad luck of all that stuff going to crap once you got it although it sounds like the dealership knows they're guitly because they have been replacing/fixing things for you. All the dealerships I've been to would've laughed at you if you would've even asked them to fill up a low tire.

+1, but I'm thinking it's more towards the latter of the 2, given the nature of the breakages.

Me personally I don't think I'd want to keep that truck around for too much longer. With all the components vehicles are made of these days, you could find yourself replacing more and more stuff on down the line.

Well, you would expect some repairs with a truck that is nearly 7 years old, but this sounds fishy. I agree that the dealer tried pulling something over on you. Ide find a good reputable and honest mechanic that will crawl around everywhere and inspect the entire vehicle (engine and trans, diffs, front end parts, lines and hoses, etc) and see what all else is needing a replacement. Then decide if its worth puting any more money into it. Personally, if it cost more to fix my current truck than the loss I ould take from selling it, Ide sell it.

Example: Lets say you owe $10,000 on it. You could sell it today for $6000. Thats a $4000 loss. If the truck required more than $4000 of repairs, Ide sell it. You are gonna come out behind on it either way, but you want to take the lesser of two evils.

It really sucks that you are having to go through all that though.

Thanks for the responses guys. Ya it did test drive great, and nothing was leaking when i bought it. I guess I did not notice the front end parts or they just decided to break. I think the truck was definitely beat up. I think I am going to sell it, but I just dont know when. I want a z71, but i dont have the money. I thought about saving up and selling it over the summer and getting a different truck then. Would you sell it asap? I think after I fix these problems it should be good for a while, but that is what I said before.

This thing sounds like a washed salvage title; anyone research that?
