bgdeer1 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Anyone have a gmc 1500 with an edge and ran it on performance mode w/o 91 octane ? Can I try it on 87?
Stevens03 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 You can... but you'll notice alot less power and you may get some ping under load which isn't a good thing. My 2003 had a tune for 93 octane and could get away with 87 without issue under normal driving but when I was hooked to a trailer, I had to make sure I had 93 octane or I'd get ping (early detonation) Try a tank and see how it goes. In most cases, the "handheld" tuners are more conservative in the programming than true custom tunes because they wont their tunes to work with "all" trucks in various conditions so you should be fine.
bgdeer1 Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Yeah I heard fromthe other people about the ping. Have u tried the transmission settings alot with the tow setting? Any feed back on those, I have only ran econ
Stevens03 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 You can turn up the line pressure for a faster shift without issue. Quite frankly, a faster shift is what you want. It produces less heat which helps the transmission to last longer.
