fueling problem, gas filler neck, valve???

My filler neck has always given my problems clicking off the gas pump often but recently has gotten where it won't take gas at anything over a trickle and clicks off every second or two even when pumping very slow.

 

I called the dealer and they said it could be the fuel filler Solenoid valve ($154) at the gas tank and that it costs about $350 for them to fix.

 

Question, can I just remove it and do without, what exactly does it do? regulate the amount of fuel allowed to be pumped??? Keep it from backing out?

 

BTW I pulled the cap off the vent line and cleaned it out This didnt help.

 

 

When I remove the gas cap i here a hissing as its pressurized air and not venting.

 

 

this is on a 2004 Avalanche 1500 Z71 5.3l

its the venting/Evap system,so no vapours are getting to the atmosphere and are burnt in the engine,,,

 

you will fail any test by your state if applicable if you disable the sysyem and the light on the dash will make you mental

 

but do want ya want i guess lol

 

if you want a colapsed/expanded tank and god knows what else you take out/alter the system..

 

anyone else have more indepth knowledge as to the ramifications of his thought pattern,good or bad ??

 

PS the hissing is the tank going back to normal size cuz the vent solinoid has failed ,the canister is also full of crap and cheaping out on the canister will fail the next vent solinoid in short order .

I didn't have this problem but one day my check engine light came on so I had auto zone scan it and he said the evap solenoid was the problem and recommended that I run sea foam and somehow that fixed it so maybe that fixed it. And i don't have problems filling the truck up.
