I have the stock bose system navigation in my sierra but it doesn't have the dvd, or the dolby digital tags in the bottom corners. I want to do get a lock pick but not sure if it is compatible. Is there different ones or does it just not come from the factory anymore with those or possible to remove them? Is there a way to tell? I mean it uses the dvd based gps map discs from gm so I would figure it was the same but would like some sort of confirmation.

You can do a LockPick, no problem. We've had great luck with the GMX-550, but some folks find it a little hard to use if you don't use it every day.

It allows you to use the rear camera in motion and also allows you to add an iPod/iPhone and use the "iPod out" feature so you can navigate fthe iPod from the SW controls - it's pretty cool.

Here's a couple videos showing the unit in an '11 Escalade (essentially the same as the Sierra, but a much nicer screen):

So no problems putting in a DVD or playing one from iPod with my setup?

Nope - this unit overrides all the DVD in motion lockouts and allows the iPod to play video at any time as well...

I'm beginning to wonder if it was a bad idea to order my new truck with the factory nav system...

Ummm, if you haven't taken possession of it yet, can you get a different truck? :fingersx:

The DVD indication on a factory nav unit indicates the truck has the rear entertainment system. GM does not sell the DVD capable nav unit

without the RES option. The stock non-DVD nav unit will not play a DVD with or without the LockPick. I have a 2011 HD truck and I

added the DVD factory nav unit and I already had the LTZ Bose stero system. The add of the DVD nav unit was done by my dealer

and was very easy.
