iPod and iPhone problem with Advent OGM-1

Recommended Posts

When I first installed the OGM-1 the iPhone 4s worked with the USB J-link that came with the OGM-1. I tried the iPhone and iPod today and neither was recognized, not even charging. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I try a system reset?

Any help appreciated.

Same problem as you. Installed mine last night and it didn't work at all. Tried again this morning and it recognized it and worked ok. Sound from ipod music was a little scratchy. Then unplugged and plugged back in and nada. About 50/50 with me. I'm sure walt the man will chime in shortly.

Hey guys ..had the same thing happen here...but today i just finished my back-up camera install and the had my iPhone connected ...started up truck and radio came on...the iPhone chirped and OGM-1 controlled it

...disconnected it and plugged it back in and ....no go. Then shut truck down... opened door to shut down radio... connected iPhone again.... started up truck and radio... iPhone worked again...so guess its a cycle of having phone connected at shutdown and start up...Make sense?

I don't know if this is the case with your issues or not, but one thing that I do RELIGIOUSLY when I install these decks is to do the "System Reset" before I do anything else. The effect of system reset is to initialize the deck in the vehicle in which it will live, and lets it read the CAN codes so it knows what "home" is. This is the foundation for all the other settings and adjustments that you may do to get it fine-tuned in the vehicle.

Although it may have nothing at all to do with this issue, if you can't remember doing a system reset, do it now, then determine if the problem still exists. I can tell you that every time I've used my iPod for demo purposes, it seems to report unless the battery in the iPod is dead. My 160Gb Classic is kind of chunky sometimes, but that's more Apple's fault than the Advent's fault.

Keep me posted...

connected iPhone again.... started up truck and radio... iPhone worked again

I updated my firmware, turned off the truck, plugged in the iPhone, started and the IPod function worked again. I believe that the trick is to have it plugged in prior to turning on.

I wish that would of solved mine. Didnt:-) :-) I have reset, tried plugged in prior, during and after startup and nada. Frustrating me. Only thing not working. Could I have missed an RCA plug in or anything. Its on same harness as Bluetooth and that works so I know main plug is in. Keep the suggestions coming guys. Determined to get this working

Same issue. When the OGM1 was first installed I could plug and unplug as I wished. Now Has to be power off, plug in ios device than ignition on. Grrrr.....

I always made a point of not unplugging it when audio/video was streaming but a couple of times it did happen.

I had something similar happen to me for the first time today on a new iGo equipped OGM-1.

Had the source on XM and it would not recognize the iPod no matter what.

Once I turned it to any other source, it would recognize whenever I plugged it in, then didn't pose a problem again.

Is this how you guys are getting yours to mess up?

I have now tried 2 Different J-Link Cables. Updating the OGM1 to lastest hardware, Different IOS devices and the ole hard reset. No dice, my next try is a new cable that connects the J-Link to the Ogm1 (media cable)

Hey guys. I was having the same problems everyone is describing. I also tried all the troubleshooting fixes to no avail. My solution was to pull the deck out and make sure everything was plugged in well. I then tried with deck not pushed all way in and it worked. So I knew the cord was ok. When I put it back in no go again. So I really took my time and pushed all the cords away and made sure the unit slid in flush. Has worked great since then no problems. I did have it plugged in prior to starting first time but since then I can plug in an unplug iPhone at any time. Bottom line if everything else isn't working make sure cords aren't crimped or stressed. Good luck

    • Missing pieces of the Assembly   Detergency vs Solvency   Not the same thing. Detergency is the mechanism that surrounds solid particulates preventing amalgamation. Usually accompanied by a Dispersant whose job it is to keep those encapsulated particles in Suspension. Solvency keeps things that can be dissolved in solution.    Salt is a solid that can be dissolved. Pepper is a solid that cannot be dissolved. A detergent/dispersant is effective on pepper but a solvent is more effective on salt. As long as the solids remain in either state, dissolved or dispersed then they can be be removed with the oil upon change.    How many wranglers does it take to herd cats? Depends on how many cats your herding. How much sponge does it take to soak up water? How much water is there to soak up? Point is most oil blends start with some herding ability and next to zero sponge and recently even fewer wranglers are being sent to do the same job.    So you start with a dozen cowboys and zero cows but at the drive progresses you pick up cows along the way, but not cowboys. At some point you have more cows that the wranglers can handle and some leave the herd. Deposits. And the API has an acceptable number of cows they are willing to let loose. In the ideal world zero is the right number for he rancher but to the butcher....a few lost is fine. This cow is beat to death. Let's move on....   Solvency isn't something oils on the Walmart shelf care about AT ALL. Problem is, you motor does. Fuels driven varnish sticks rings and only a solvent can keep them in check. The bet is that the solids driven portion that plug the expander rings and the oil drain backs and VVT screens and AFM screens will be an issue long before varnish is. Not that it wont be but if they market well enough the consumer can be kept ignorant enough to either believe it is "normal" (A quart in 1 or 2K is normal) OR is kept at bay longer than the first owner is likely to hang on to the unit. Solvency cost money.    Now the OEM's have John Q. Public buffaloed into the belief that the number cows accumulated along the trail is a known and predictable CONSTANT. It isn't. Nor is the rate at which they crossed paths with them. Only the number of wrangles is constant. Or was. Each new generation of oil sees fewer and fewer of them.    So what happens when the number of cowboys is lower (lower TBN) with each seasons trail but the trial is longer (OCI) and the number of cows along that trail continues increase? (Conditions that promote deposits).    For awhile the blenders were on to something. Better bases are harder to degrade (fewer cows) but that was overtaken by a longer trail (OCI) and improved breeding (More cows) while continuing to reduce the cowboy staffing levels (TBN/Aniline #).    Marketing has been successful. We've fired most of the staff, cows breed line bunnies, the trail is ten times longer and we've convinced the boss his ranch is in better shape that it ever was.    That kids is just the cleaning side. The side few pay attention to.
