dl3 puddle lights

ok guys heres my problem/question

i have an 08 avalanche lt and i bought a set of escalade dl3s and after ordering and receiving a drivers side switch and bezel from gm parts direct {which were the wrong parts and even though they shipped the wrong items, they wont take back } i had to order a second set from an ebay dealer. The switch came in , and was exactly what i needed . I brought the truck down to the dealer to have the modules flashed (after installing everything myself and the only thing new that worked was the in glass turn signals and autodimming drivers mirror ) the tech couldnt "communicate" with my new ebay module , and said i was S.O.L. then proceeded to charge me $130 . So at this point ive given up on the dream of actually having fully operational power folding mirrors , but my question is ... is there a way, WITHOUT another trip to the dealer to make the puddle lights operational.. i DONT WANT TO , but will if thats the only way , trace the dome light wire back and splice into it, is there an easier way? ive searched for a good diagram/photo with labels of the passenger side dash board junction box that i think probably has an easily accessible connection that will throw power when the dome lights come on ..
