Clear Bra or Deflector?

Recommended Posts

My new 2012 2500HD arrived yesterday and I'm interested in some nose protection what with the crap they put on the roads here in the winter. The dealer wanted $395 for a clear bra on the front....yikes! and a local independent about $240. The deflectors are cheaper but not wild about the look.

Any reviews on how the clear bras hold up or work? Brand differences? Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

I've been debating this as well. A buddy of mine has a clear plastic deflector and you can't even tell its there until you are staring at it up close. I'm thinking of going that route. The bras are nice but show dirt pretty quick around the edges and it's hard to get off.

I picked up a AVS Areo Skin bug defelctor. It sits very close to the hood and can't tell it's there unless you really look. ZERO wind noise that others have with the traditional bug deflectors. I will post a pic.

How does the 3M hold up after a few/several years? I have seen some older ones that looked pretty rough, but maybe a off brand?

Mine has a full on deflector, seems to really help with bugs in the summer. The 1997 doesn't have one, and it always ends up with more gunk on it. I think they look good but that's just me... :dunno:

Anyone ever painted one of these to match? I like it and it would hide the rock ding and prevent new ones. Don't see the 3M tape stopping dings and dents.

How much did that run you? Do you ever get crap behind it at all even though it sits right up on the hood? I looked at an oem one which sits up close to the hood but a truck that had it on it had a lot of crap Chet stuck behind it

I have an AVS on my 07 NBS and am happy with it. Minimal wind noise IMO and looks good. Being the hood has such a tall front end I wanted something to protect it from chips n dings..

I have llumar clear film on my rockers, still looks good and does the job. But if you have any color other than white you'll prob notice an outline of wax where the edges are, thats about the only thing that annoys me. I would have done my front end because it's color matched but that's another story

I paid $60 shipped from autoanything. It uses 3M tape, and it sit so close to the hood I haven't see any junk yet, but it's only a few weeks.

I like yours!...... Man I can't seem to figure out what I want, but I need to get something pretty quick. I know I dont want "smoke" color, I want it clear, I just havent been able to figure out what will look best. The 3M seems cool, but not so sure how it will withstand minor rocks or road debris.
