Upgrades to the factory alarm system?

Well my new 2500HD arrived and it is about 6" too long to fit in the garage.

So outside it goes and that makes me think I'd like to upgrade the factory alarm system to at least a flashing led and maybe a shock sensor.

 

The dealer has an upgrade to a Karr EX1 add on security system for $345. Still uses the OEM remotes, etc. Seems like a high price to me.

 

Has anyone been down this road before? Any reviews

If someone wants to break in ....an LED wont stop them....

 

Dont the newer GMs have shock sensing already built in??

 

Unless you live in a real nasty part of town.....shouldnt the stock alarm be ok??

No shock sensing, content only, which means they can break the window and crawl in and crawl out.

 

Opening the door sets off the alarm. I think the LED might just move them down the road to the next one, you know, the path of least resistance.

Ron I bought the GM shock sensor harness for the OEM alarm for my 08 GMC. This harness just plugged in the existing wiring beneath the steering column, but I'm not happy with it. I've banged on the door with a lot more force than a would be burglar and it never sets it off. So was the GM shock/motion sensor worth it, not in my opinion! I will go after market if and when it comes time..
