Tires again

I know there is already all this talk about tires on here, but everyone seems to be talking about 4wd.  Will 285/75's fit on a 2wd truck without any lift?

By doing some math, I figure my tires (265/70/16) are *roughly* 30.61" tall and 10.43" wide.  A 285/75/16 would clock in at *roughly* 32.83" tall and 11.22" wide.  It would be my guess that taking into account how my 265/70's fit, a late model 2wd 1/2 ton should be able to fit 265/75/16's (31.65" tall) or maybe 285/70/16's (if there be such a beast).  This is concerning the fronts only, as some serious large meats would fit under the bed of course.

I do know (from experience) that various tires labeled with the same metric size will actually be various "real-world" sizes.  

I am sure someone will chime in with "real-world" experience soon, but I thought I could help with the english measurements.
