Hey guys, I got a problem with my truck im woundering if any of you may have had before. When Im driiving over 40mph my trucks starts to vibrate really hard. Here is the thing tho, My trucks starts vibrating over 40, if im going like 65 and take my foot of the gas, the vibrating stops. Any of you have this happend before? Maybe Drive Shaft not balanced? If it was bad shock would this happen all the time and not just when my foot is on the pedal. Car rides smooth up to 40mph

thanks

Seeing that you are driving a 2-door Tahoe, I doubt you have a carrier bearing on your drive shaft.    So my guess is that you either had a weight come off your drive shaft or you have a bad universal joint.  I would lean more towards the universal joint as you say that vibration comes and goes as you apply and release the throttle at speed.

Is there any way I can get under there and tell if that is the case or is this somethin real presise  .. Also how much would i bend over for if i had to get this replaced?

Thanks for the fast reply

i found this on another forum... incase anyone in the future looks up this post.

"I had mine swapped out. Should have done it myself but had to work. Had gone camping in some local hills. U-joints were NOT happy with hills.

Both new joints with grease zerks, parts and labor: $180.

Next set I'll MAKE the time. Expensive lesson learned.

#1)  IF you have a carrier bearing....and it goes bad:  Your problem will not likely be intermittent.

Sounds to me ujoint is the call (less likely but POSSIBLE) missing driveshaft weight.

U joints are cheap and easy for even the most basic mechanic.  Before I spent $65 for someone else to diagnose it for me ...I'd change out the u-joints just for kicks.  In fact I'll bet you can change 2 if you have 2...for under the diagnosis charge that most dealers would charge.

You did not mention any clunking noises. If you have any then it is most likely u-joints. I would also take some time to look at the wheels. If a wheel weight came off you will see where it used to be. Drive shaft problems would be a last resort.

Alot of times you can climb under your truck and try to wiggle the Universal joints on your dirve shaft.  If there is any slop in them then they are most likely bad.

I've seen U-joints that felt tight that were still bad though....

If you have to remove your driveshaft for any reason, make sure you mark it with some chalk so you can put it back on in the same place you took it off...
