Service Air Bag Indicator

I have a 2008 ext cab sierra 4wd, z71, 5.3 L. As I was driving the "Service Airbag" comment came up on the display. I got it serviced and apparently it was for a connector or module near the radiator. It cost $190 (parts and labor) for one. But I was curious if something like this should really go on a truck that only has 50,000 mi and is 3.5 yrs old. Is this common? Oddly enough I know someone that had this same issue on a 2008 Silverado. I can add to the post with the part number and matl they used if interested. I'd hate to think that my truck is starting to nickle and dime me! Thoughts?

Ive seen that before. Nothing mechanical will last forever. You have to fix stuff once in while.

Maybe so....but at 3 1/2 years items like this shouldn't be happening let alone costing $190. Can't say I've heard of this much (esp on any auto I've owned). Whatever happened to maintaining your vehicle and not having to worry about stuff like this. Just plain old crappy quality. I'm a GM guy too...through and through. It's hard to promote the brand when stuff like this happens. Hopefully they've made changes since 2008.

I hate to say it but its only gonna get worse. The newer vehicles have more and more electronics. Along with that more and more specs and tolerances that get smaller and smaller. Thus more and more problems. Go back to the days of carbs and 5 speeds. Trucks were bulletproof. Tune up once in a while and you were good.

I agree with you completely. My last post I was venting a little bit....so thanks for replying again. It certaintly does seem that when carbs were the norm.....routine maintenance got you a lot further. Thanks again.

Gmyeah. Did the dealer ever tell you what the error code was. I have 67000 miles and just came up with service air bag. I used onstar to give my diagnosis code of B0084 front end sensor. Hard to find info but think it is on passenger side below radiator.
