35" ballancing issues

I bought some used 35" BFG KM2s and so far Im fairly pleased with the ride. They do rub a tad when in reverse and turning, but thats all so far. I have yet to go offroad so they may rub more severely.

 

Anyway, to get to the point, the idiot that did the mounting and ballancing took almost 2 hours to get the old tires off and the new tires on and ballanced. Then, on the way home I heard the tell-tale sign of lead weigths popping off as I drove down the road.

 

The ironic thing is that I actually asked the guy behind the counter if they warrantied against that for any length of time. Now I know why they dont. But, he did say something about using sandbags instead of lead weights. He said the bags break open after you start driving and the sand will distribute itself to ballance the tire from within. He claimed that it would keep you from having to reballance every so oftern during the life of the tire.

 

Has anyone ever heard of these being used before or is it just another gimick?

Tried them, they were more like glass beads from Tech products TL200, took them out and rebalanced with lead. I would like to try someone with the hunter road force balancer http://www.gsp9700.com/.

 

Anyone had their tires balanced with this machine? Worth the $$$$$?

The good news is, I called a different location of the same franchise and they said that corporate DID warranty ballancing and that they would take care of me this afternoon. WOO HOO!!!

Sand, no, cerimic beads yes, used them on my motocycle. Worked great!

I didn't care for the beads in my 295/65-18's removed them and went back to lead. Had three different shops balance them and they are best right now, but still not perfect.

I dont think you will ever get a tire bigger than a 33 "perfect", but the 35s were pretty darn close until the weights started popping off. They still arent bad though.

Years ago I ran 38.5 Ground Hawg Bias ply, balanced on a bubble balancer and never had a vibration issue. It took many oz.s of weight but they were fine.

 

With today's technology I can't believe it's that hard to balance a 33x12.5 tire.

There is something to be said for the good old fashioned ways of doing things.
