Starting System Toubles....

Guys I could use some help figuring out the issue with my truck. I've made progress but ran into another issue...

 

The starter went out while I was out and about so I had it towed to the house where I removed the starter and took it to a Specialty Automitve Elec shop. He rebuilt the starter and said he replaced/cleaned up the solenoid as well as replaced a bushing in the starter.

 

I installed the starter and the truck didnt fire up. I took the starter back, he threw it on his bench and it tested out fine. I ended up jumping the 2 terminals on the starter and then it did fire up which should prove the starter in now fixed (before it would give me a single click). I went ahead and threw the multi-meter on the wire that connects to the solenoid and there is no voltage to that point when the ignition is turned.......the problem Im having is identifying where that wire goes. I traced the wire loom that it is in but it splits off in a a couple places and also goes up under the engine cover so I dont know where it goes.

 

I went ahead and checked all fuses and relays related to the starting system, they seemed to check out ok....any ideas? Im wondering if the Haynes manual would have a detailed wiring diagram or something like that which in that case I would go pick one up.

 

Let me know if you have any ideas....I've been able to save myself the 200 for the new starter (rebuild = $78) and really would like to get it up and running on my own.....Wondering if there's certain components in between the solenoid and the ignition and how I would further isolate the problem?

I did check the crank fuse and it looked/looks good. I also checked any fuse that sounded somewhat related...starter, ignition, etc. I think my local library may have a subscription to alldata.com based on a comment that the local dealership made. They are already closed for the evening so I will try to swing in there tomorrow sometime.

 

Let me know if anyone else has any suggestions. Just trying to figure out how I can further isolate the problem....

Yea I just looked that up and I agree....appears to be much more comprehensive than a Haynes type manual....looks like I will start there

So I have my subscription to AllData.com now and glad I did that - tons of good info in there. I found some step my step instructions for my problem. The problem I'm having now is that they want me to test the Crank Voltage Circuit in the PCM but I'm not having any luck locating a pin out diagram of the PCM in order to know what to touch my test lamp too....

 

Anyone an expert at AllData or know where I can find this info???
