gilroy222 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Hi, Talked to my local exhaust guy and he claims I cannot get a set of longtubes for my 2000 5.3?? I then tried asking about a catted y-pipe that I heard about to make them fit but he said it wouldn't be worth the horsepower... so suggested getting a set of stainless shorty's because they will flow better than any longtube and will bolt right up to my truck. I have heard everywhere the total opposite that shorty's hardly increase hp at all and that longtubes are certainly the way to go. Also I have seen a number of people on this board with the same year of truck and on youtube that have longtubes. Can anyone offer me any advice?? should I go for shorty's or try and push for longtubes?
Chris Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 He is completely lying to you. You can have the long tubes. Shorties just look pretty, no real gain. Long tubes will gain you power. Especially with the right scavenging.
gilroy222 Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Alright thanks guys. I tried explaining to him that people all over the internet have the same truck as me with longtube headers... many of whom on this board lol. He insisted that i could get "mid-length" and even if i did get longtubes the power increase wouldn't be big enough to make it worth while. However I have heard the complete opposite that longtubes give you a bunch of power and shorty's are just a manifold replacement pretty much lol
gilroy222 Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 get some LPP longtubes Now i'm just curious... I am in college right now so I can't spend TOO much on headers... should I get ones that are coated or would I be just as well off with the ones that are just black painted. I have heard some say the painted ones will rust or leak eventually and some say their's never did. I live in Canada and although I always have my truck dripless undercoated do you think it'd be a bad idea? Even if they did start leaking or rusting is it a major fix down the road?
Rmitch223 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Frogfish, are you running LPP LT's? If so, did you have any fitment issues?
yukon25008.1 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Try stainless works they make one of the best long tubes money can buy, im getting a set made for my 8.1, they have a ffree truck install in sept, so were going to ohio. there dyno results so 30-35 HP from the LT,s
TimmyG Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Were do i find out about free install? There only 40mins from me Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
