Magnaflow Exhaust

I went to an exhaust shop yesterday, got a quote of 300 bucks for a full dual rear Magnaflow system on my truck. I really don't like Flowmaster because of its noise, but I love the sound of Borla - and the way it shuts up when you get off the gas. Does anybody know if the Magnaflow system quiets down when you're not on it like the Borla? How does it sound in general? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

The only input I can offer is that I tried a Borla exhaust system on a V-6 for a Pontiac Grand Am.  Quality of the components, pipes, etc., was top knotch.  Self-installation was easy and the instructions were clear.

The sound was great---I loved it, until..................

At 35 MPH and 70 MPH, when the tach was at 2,000 RPM, there was this horrible and terrible DRONE sound inside of the car.  Corsa exhaust folks actually capitalize on this drone in their advertisements claiming they have wave pulses that cancel the drone out.

The drone in that little Grand Am was so bad that I pulled the Borla off and sold it.

In my case, on my 2003 Silverado, I'm also searching for an aftermarket exhaust, but I want only a slightly "beefy" sound, not a ratty sound.  Corsa is really expensive.  Their sound clip at their website is "ok", but it demos mainly some rig getting it on and doesn't demo typical driving, such as in town and regular cruising speed.  Anyway, that's about all I can offer.

I have a Magna Flow on my Tahoe.  I bought the biggest dual inlet single outlet.  It is the same size as the OEM muffler.  This keeps it quiet.  It never resonates like other exhaust and has a perfect sounding gentle purrr.  I'd recommend getting a dual Borla Tip not only b/c they look bad ass, but because it totally changes the way the exhaust sounds.  This doesn't seem possible but trust me I've had it both ways at the same exit point in the tahoe.  Magnaflow doesnt sound redneck like other brands (cough cough); it rides with class.

I have a 2001 2500HD 8.1 Allison w/ K&N filter.  I had the dual 3 in. in and dual 2.25 out magnaflow.  They put dual 2.25 tailpipes on and it sounds very good.  It originally was very deep low rumble.  It is now about 4mo's old and has gotten a lot louder.  It is very low rumble but sounds great.  I saw a 6.0 liter in a parking lot with the same set up and it wasn't as low a sound but it still sounded very good.  You can't even hear it at a idle or on the hwy.  If you put your foot into it you will be heard for quite some distance.  Mine cost me $275.00 for the muffler and two tailpipes installed.  One recommendation- don't open these motors to much they required some backpressure.  Good luck!
