I'm considering new tires for my 2009 Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 Standard Bed. I would like to replace the original 265R70/17 tires with 265R75/17 tires to get the added load capacity. Will those work on my truck?

Taller side walls will not necessarily increase capacity. You are still restricted to the certified payload that is stated on the sticker inside the door. The tire rating itself will change dependent on type of tire (i.e. C, D, E-rated). Plus taller tires will throw off the speedometer and odometer and all that stuff. Why do need to increase your rating? If you just want a more stable ride while towing or hauling then stay with the OEM size and just get an increased rating tire.

I'm not trying to add extra load capacity to the truck, just looking for a little extra margin of safety. I haul a slide in truck camper that weighs 2200lbs. My current tires are E rated 3195 lb capacity. I thought I saw an E rated Michelin in 265R75/17 that had a load capacity slightly over 3400 lbs. I discovered this morning that I misread the specs and that was for a 16" tire. So far I haven't found a 17" tire to fit my truck with a capacity greater than 3195 which will work, just wanted that extra margin of safety that I thought I would get with a 3400+ lb tire capacity.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Your current tires are rated for 3195lbs per tire. The 2200lb camper weight would be distributed among all 4 tires, not just one, so your safety margin has already been far exceeded. I'm not saying don't go for "extra" tire but you are already more than safe. I don't even have LT tires and mine would take that weight, just the truck itself wouldn't take it for long. I just don't want you to spend money when you may not necessarily need to. Now if you want new tires...go for it.
