4l60E Temp Gauge

Recommended Posts

Ive got an Autometer transmission temp gauge on my 05 Silverado that is installed into the diagnositc pressure port on the side of the transmission case. I had my trans rebuilt over the summer and the builder said that i wouldnt get an accurate reading through that port because the fluid doesnt circulate up to that port. My questions is, how accurate is that statement, and how much difference could I get between the fluid temp and the temp shown on the gauge?

He is correct. While that port is exposed to line pressure it does not have fluid actively flowing past it. It's hard to say how much of a temp differential you will see between that port and say, the pan. IMHO you should have a shop weld a port in the side of the pan to install the sensor. (Just make sure the sensor is not going to hit anything when it goes in.)
